土と人 (Earth People)

Saturday, Septemeber 22nd, 2018

Yamamoto Hachiman Shrine, Pejite / Mashiko town (Tochigi Prefecture)

Once we realize there is no separation between nature and ourselves, we start to listen to that sweet harmony which binds us all.
This first edition of「土と人」(土=Earth and 人=People) takes root in the rural town of Mashiko (located in Tochigi Prefecture) where we will go on a little journey to awaken the senses. In the outdoor courtyard of Yamamoto Hachiman Shrine, let us gently sway to the peaceful sounds of the forest and Takagi Masakatsu’ s piano compositions. At pejite, a traditional Japanese kura once used to store rice (now a beautifully curated shop selling antique furniture and ceramics by local artisans), let us replenish ourselves with fresh and colorful vegetables* concocted with care by plant-based chef extraordinaire Bettina Campolucci-Bordi.

「土と人 (tsuchitohito)」 is happening alongside「土祭」(hijisai = Earth Art Festival), a festival which flourishes every three years in Mashiko since 2009. A wonderful occasion to explore this charming town known for it’ s traditional Japanese pottery named mashikoyaki.
